Creating Meaningful Employment Opportunities with Jobedge Partner Adelaide Active

In the wake of International Day of People with Disability, the conversation around inclusivity and accessibility in the workplace is more important than ever. Here at Jobedge, we are working continuously to advance and tailor our programs to best meet the needs of our participants. It is with partnerships with employers such as Adelaide Active that we can continue to strengthen our approach. 

Adelaide Active, a premier provider of Allied Health services, has been working in partnership with Jobedge since November 2023 to streamline recruitment process, creating a more accessible, inclusive and diverse workplace culture for people with disability.  

Under the leadership of Practice Manager Cheryl Smith and Director Rob Gordon, Adelaide Active offers a variety of Exercise Physiology, Physiotherapy, and fitness programs that work to address health and wellbeing. Each program is tailored to the individual, meeting the diverse needs of their clients and fulfilling their commitment to exceptional patient-centred care.  

Alongside Jobedge, Adelaide Active has worked to enhance the opportunities for participants living with disability through a range of workplace programs focused on supporting the orientation and training of new recruits and existing employees.  

They offer flexible work arrangements, such as adjusted schedules, part-time hours, and more frequent breaks, and allow staff to bring service animals, reinforcing a commitment to addressing and properly accommodating for unique requirements. 

Jobedge and Adelaide Active have worked together to streamline the interviewing and hiring process for a less intimidating and more relaxed experience for disadvantaged individuals. Interviews are informal, taking on more of a “get-to-know-you” chat. For new recruits, they provide hands-on support from day one, with regular check-ins as they progress further in their employment. 

Brittany, our Jobedge Regional Team Leader, and primary contact with Adelaide Active, has seen the impact of their holistic and person-centred approach first-hand.  

“Adelaide Active is very supportive of their workers and has a flexible and understanding work environment. I have received feedback from all our customers on how welcome and comfortable they feel. I visit Adelaide Active on a weekly basis and seeing the change that they have made to our customers’ lives is incredible,” Brittany said.  

She works closely with Cheryl and Rob, fostering an ongoing and open dialogue to understand recruitment needs and identify participants suitable for roles within the organisation, creating meaningful and sustainable job opportunities.  

Adelaide Active has successfully recruited five Jobedge’s participants from Disability Employment Services program in the past year for roles in Administration, Maintenance, and Cleaning. 

They identified skills that aligned with open roles within the business, and through holistic support, they adjusted the roles to ensure a good work-life balance, creating an environment where the participant can excel in their position.

Adelaide Active’s vision is constantly expanding, and they show no signs of slowing down. Recently, they opened a brand-new inclusive gym space, adding to their range of state-of-the-art facilities with plans to expand their inclusive employment practices to other locations.
