Meet our Adelaide based Lead Employment Consultant, Scott, who gives us some great insight into his time with the Jobedge team.

Welcome Scott! Tell us a little about yourself and your role
I am a proud South Aussie boy, raised in a country town situated about 40kms from Adelaide and close to the leafy green vineyards of the Barossa Valley where I completed my secondary education. I have an amazing man and partner in life and together we have a beautiful fur giant who is an Alaskan Malamute x Husky!
As you can imagine, the fur is endless!
I have worked in employment services for 3 years, prior to that I was a nurse.
My current role is Lead Employment Consultant for Jobedge in SA.
What do you do in your role as an Employment Consultant and what services do you offer?
My role is to engage and broker ongoing employer relationships with companies across all facets of industry. At Jobedge, our employers are an invaluable resource to ensure we can provide tailored and ongoing work opportunities for our clients. These relationships are managed and nurtured by my small Business Development team collectively within our account portfolios.
We regularly meet with employers for meetings to discuss their current business needs at the ground level.
We then explore with them the many benefits of partnering with Disability Employment Services, which includes free assistance with recruitment needs and Government-funded subsidies that are paid to each employer in recognition of their willingness to work with our program and to employ our clients.
What led you into this line of work?
I have always been a relational person and always loved helping people. When I left my nursing career the people skills were easily transferable.
I like to make a difference in peoples lives and I thought what better way to help people find their future and hope than employment services!

Looking back on your career, briefly describe your pathway and what you have learned and been most proud of?
My time working in employment services has taught me to about the strength of humanity and the human spirit. With the countless life stories which I am privileged to hear from our clients about their hardships and struggles, most face some of the worst odds imaginable and yet find that inner burn to fight another day.
I am proud to be a piece of the jigsaw of life. I am one part amongst many other parts that will one day make a small yet positive difference in someone else’s life.
Did you have any jobs that you can look back on while you were growing up and if so – what did it teach you?
Nursing taught me resilience and discipline.
I was a paperboy when I finished high school, again, this taught me discipline as it was 3am starts. This helped me to see the value in working and in every dollar that I earned.
What are some of the key skills you have brought with you or gained since joining Jobedge?
Jobedge has given me the opportunity to become a leader. I am privileged to lead the Business Development Team and work with an incredible team of dedicated and passionate individuals.
How do you enjoy your time outside work?
I love all things music! Karaoke bars and dancing with friends, to quiet nights in with my partner watching Netflix. My partner and I are both musical and both sing and play instruments and also love to record music together at home.
What is the team dynamic like at Jobedge?
It’s passionate, its innovative, its inclusive and quite honestly, it’s a privilege to work with such salt of the earth yet professional and qualified individuals. I love it!
Describe some of your highlights or memorable moments so far with Jobedge?
In my first week, our state regional manager gave me a welcome card, a gift and was so warm and welcoming. The whole team were so excited and encouraging when I arrived. I got my birthday off, which was amazing, and the Executive Director personally contacted me on my birthday to wish me well.
What are the best things about working at Jobedge?
The business culture is amazing right from the ground up to the board of directors. You are made to feel like a person of worth and value. The team around you make each day so diverse and no given day is ever the same in employment services. I am thankful to be part of Jobedge, and I am thankful for the amazing individuals who I get to work with each and every day.
