Employers Read moreIn just six months since starting their employment with Arjo, Jobedge participants Ryan and Jedeo have shown that with a can-do attitude and determination, anyone can thrive when given the right opportunity.
Ryan, a Disability Employment Services (DES) program participant with Jobedge since February 2024, and Jedeo, another DES participant since September 2021, have both been waiting for the right opportunity to come their way.
Jobedge held an information session to identify potential candidates who might be interested in a position at Arjo as a Laundry Technician at their Regency Park site. Arjo is a global provider of medical devices, services and solutions, operating in more than 60 countries to create a sustainable environment for healthcare professionals and their patients.
Ryan and Jedeo, both keen to jump in and give this new opportunity a try, showed interest right away.
A week after the information session, Jobedge arranged and facilitated interviews, offering comprehensive support to all stakeholders. Both interviews were successful, and the team provided each individual with appropriate work attire tailored to their roles and offered personalised support to ensure a smooth transition.
For Jedeo, with English being his second language, an interpreter was organised to accompany him on his first day to ensure all induction modules and required emergency policy and procedure were understood. For Ryan, when needed, the team helped ensure that he had appropriate transport to and from work.
Both Ryan and Jedeo started in June 2024, with flexible hours on a casual basis, with weekly on-site check-ins from Sam and Brittany to ensure that they understood their workplace expectations, were settling in well in their new jobs and addressed any worries or concerns they may have had.
They have shown great ambition and persistence, rising to new challenges such as learning repairs, a critical part of Arjo’s rental business in SA.
Their outstanding performance and commitment have earned them the opportunity to take on a full-time position within the company after just six months of casual employment.
Brittany Judge has reflected on their journey, and on the seamless transition to employment:
“It was smooth sailing through their employment. They adapted so well to the environment, progressing from just a few hours a week to working multiple days in a row, all while learning so many new skills. I’m very proud of them, and they should be incredibly proud of themselves,”
Kym Harding, the SA Operations Manager and Ryan and Jedeo’s manager at Arjo, speaking highly of the boys, shared:
“In life, sometimes people just need that opportunity, and you will be amazed once given that opportunity and the results you get from them. From the word go, both Ryan and Jedeo have brought a positive attitude, a breath of fresh air to the team here in Adelaide, they are so appreciative of the opportunity they have been given,”
For Ryan, this milestone marks the end of a 15-year journey to secure stable employment. Reflecting on his experience, he shared:
“I love the job and the people. Kym is awesome and so are my coworkers. The atmosphere at Arjo, I couldn’t ask for a better place to be after 15 years of looking for work. I would recommend it to anyone. Thank you for the opportunity,”
Congratulations to Ryan and Jedeo on this milestone achievement!
