Jobedge recognises Disability Pride Month, celebrated throughout July, which is dedicated to celebrating the diverse range of disability we see around us.

Disability Pride Month is a time to take pride in our own disability identity, and to uplift people with disability around us, who may be family, friends, colleagues or community members. This important month, which focuses on celebration, also provides on opportunity to reflect on the progress made in creating an inclusive society, and recognise the change still needed to ensure that we build a future that accommodates people with accessibility needs.

At Jobedge, our team is committed to supporting people with a disability or illness as they find meaningful, long-term work and opportunities, and we take pride in uplifting the people in our community, and our own team.

We have asked members of our team to share their thoughts around disability, and the significance of this month. Here is what they had to say:

Brittany – Mentor

“I love having the opportunity to make a real difference in people’s lives, particularly helping people gain the confidence and independence to grow and reach their goals in life and employment.”

Brooke – Team Leader

“Disability Pride Month is important to me because I have family members who live with a disability. I face multiple struggles that impact me, I’m neurodivergent and have a child who is neurodivergent. It is important to spread awareness and create an inclusive community for all.”

Francy – Employer Engagement Consultant

“Beautiful diversity, powerful potential, incredible community.”

Mel – Mentor

“Every one of our participants has unique skills and strengths that bring value to others. I thoroughly enjoy getting to know each person, focusing on what they can do well, and helping to guide them towards a more independent and fulfilling future.

Sometimes people just need someone to cheer them on – to know they have someone in their corner who believes in them. It’s such a privilege to be that person for the participants who chose to work with us here at Jobedge.”

Thank you to everyone in our Adelaide community – participants, staff, employers and partners, for being part of our journey to provide meaningful support to people with disability. Together, we are creating a brighter, more inclusive future.
