Now that we’re well into the new year, businesses are returning from holidays and looking to build their teams by hiring more people. At the same time, jobseekers are looking to step into their next roles and seek employers to meet them where they’re at.

One of the big questions we hear at Jobedge is, “how can I find a workplace that is disability friendly?”

We know that your accessibility needs are important, so if you’re on the hunt for a supportive career opportunity in 2023, we have some options!

1. Job advertisements

Many job ads now actively encourage diversity and inclusion, which is a good indication that they’ll be supportive of your needs. If you’re unsure of the level of support available, the simplest way to find out could be to ask. Most job ads come with a phone number or email address that you can contact. Reach out and say something along the lines of:

“I’m interested in the role of ________, and before I apply, I’d like to learn a bit more about the business. Would you describe yourselves as disability friendly?” Then follow up with: “what makes you say that?”

2. Disability-focused initiatives

Some workplaces will promote disability-friendly programs on their websites. You can find information related to accessibility support, partnerships with other programs or organisations, and mentoring systems to ensure you have the best conditions to thrive in. There’s also government programs available with the intention of creating inclusive workplaces where people with disabilities can thrive in their careers.

3. Disability employment services

We’d also encourage you to work with a disability employment services provider such as Jobedge. They have the expertise to find you the right employer, and many employers partner with a provider to help them recruit. Reach out to our team to see how we might be able to help you and your potential employer so that we can Progress Together.
